History of the Roadmasters
In 1976, Don Latner, Sid Marsh, Johnny Eastteam and Glenn Vickers were playing a benefit for Redwoods United Workshop. That night, Tony Gonsalves came up with the name "Roadmasters". From that, history was made.
In 1980, Don Latner moved to Washington and a very young Doug Eastteam joined Johnny, Sid and Glenn.
Glenn and Doug are still in the band, though they've gone through a few drummers and bass players.
They started playing dance halls, private parties and some night clubs. Now they play night clubs, private parties and some dance halls.
In 1983, The band competed in a Battle of the Bands at the Eureka Mall, placing 3rd. Doug received an award for Best Lead Vocalist.
In 1986, they competed in the first True Value Showdown, placing 3rd behind the Lighthouse Band and the Dale Hustler Band.
In 1987, they went to Redding and competed in the Showdown and won. Then went to Madera and competed in the State competition and placed 8th.
in 1988, they competed in the local Showdown and placed 3rd again, behind Austin Alley and the Rustlers and Ron Mason.
1989 belonged to the Roadmasters, winning the Showdown in Fortuna, then going to Bakersfield to place #1 in the state. The boys came back to compete in the Regionals here in Eureka in front of the home crowd. They placed 2nd (by 4 points) behind Patty Syme from Ontario, Oregon.
Though they competed the next 2 years, the fire of competition slowly faded with the let-down of defeats. Going through some more member changes, the band decided to focus on having fun with a high-energy show and continue putting on a great show for us today.
